The indictment charges that Harry Hintsala, 61, abused the children between 2007 and 2011 at his residence on the reservation.

All of the charges–aggravated sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact of minors–took place after Hintsala retired from his public positions.

In addition to being a police officer, Hintsala worked as a supervisor at Warm Springs Children Protective Services and as a teacher at Head Start, according to OregonDepartment of Justice.

The FBI and Bend police department are assisting the Warm Springs Police Department in the investigation.

After his arraignment for all eight counts Hintsala was released to a halfway house, where he is to wear aGPS tracking device at all times and never allowed to have contact with minors.

“Sexual abuse of children is a heinous and tragic crime,” said S. Amanda Marshall, United States Attorney for the District of Oregon. “Our office will make every effort to bring sexual predators to justice.”

His trial is set for Dec. 13.
